Hey Ian, I might be interested in those 4.10s. Just need to double check to make sure I have the HP 30.

I thought id try to fix it myself, just dont know if it would be easier to swap out a used axle or replace the gears and bearing in differential.
Gotcha! Yea I would go to the Junk Yard man- Nothing on craigslist anywhere near us right now. Collins wanted 400 dollars for for one with 4.10s awhile back. (which is a little high) Check the tag on your rear axle for gear ratio. Get a HP Dana 30 (just call the junk yards and ask if they have an front axle from a 1999 Jeep XJ with the same gear ratio as your rear). You might have to replace the ball joints/hub etc on a junk yard axle but WAAY cheaper than 1400. If one ever pops up on craigslist, they are usually 50-150$. The mechanics price is about right around here to swap gears (it is a lot harder than just throwing them in) J&K Customs is cheaper than that though. If you got a JY HP30, you would just have to pull your old one and throw the new one in while upgrading your strength.

The first post on the second page has a picture with both of them. The differential will let you know. The HP has an extra/larger vein on the bottom side and a few other differences. With a 98 unless it has been changed you should!

Dang, now you have me thinking of upgrading... which is always more work if I do it myself. Ill have to do some more research and thinking on it. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Ian, i know you were looking at the **** steel fenders, have you seen the fenders from Rustys? I like them since they have the window gaurd on the rear and I think they are put together pretty well, but im not sure about the shape. What do you think?

Hmmm... Have not seen those before man- Pretty good looking if you ask me- Looks like they bolt up the same way. I wonder if they can make them larger for bigger tires like H.O.R.E does? No pics of them on the jeep.

I would assume you could fit a 35 under there without any problems. But you know what assuming does...

Totally understand, if i actually had money to blow my wife would be ticked too. As a matter of fact she still doesnt know I ordered a lift kit...lol. I will (fingers crossed) hopefully be getting a new job in the next week or so, so I will soon have a disposable income, to dispose of on my jeep.

They are on the "improve mpg" side of the spectrum for 33s. 4.56s are "back to stock" and 4.88s are "more power". To be completely honest, I did not feel any loss of power when I put them in with 34" super swamper LTBS when I first did it all. With 35s, sliders, armor etc. etc. however, they are too shallow without some engine upgrades. My last XJ had 4.88s and 33s and it was a gas hog anytime I went down the highway- If it's your DD, should be fine for you.

Sounds like they will do the job. I jst got my HD track adjustable track bar/bracket and placed my order for some JKS 1" shackles, all I need to get is the ACOS spacer and for my lift to actually get here. Getting excited....oh and some tires would be nice.

Hmmm. Depending on funding, I might have 5 33" treadwright guard dogs... 16" rims though. Send me a PM when you want the gears- We can meet up at the holiday inn again.
