I'd definitely say save the money and go straight to a 6.5 LA kit. You're gonna pay for half of it if you buy a lift right now, might as well save for the full LA.

If he wants to go big. With RC all you have to dois by the arms, coils, etc unless he goes with the add-a-leaf then he'll have to buy the full kit

I agree, go adjustable long arms in the beginning and you can play with ride height all you want.
If you are planning to be on your stock axles for a while 4.5 with 33"s is perfect.
Once you go 35"s, you need to start preparing for the worst. Upgraded shafts, gears, spare ujoints, spare drive lines, SYE, disk brake converion for a turdy five or 8.25. And so on...
Decide what you would like your end goal to be( even though it will be ever changing) and start building for that. Leave all the half *** build or lift stuff alone. It will only cause reget and Jeep envy.
Good luck with the build.

So True! I am lookin to go tons and dove tail now. Back half it then the cage.
