As far as 4x4ing, yes... very green. When I was a kid I would go out romping in the woods with my cousin on his Honda 3 wheelers but this is my first 4x4.

4x4 story:
I purchased a $500 manual 4x4 '91 XJ back in August of last year, but it turned out to be in horrible shape (rusted floor, AC didn't work, uncovered electrical problems, etc.) and turned into just too big of a project. So a few weeks ago I came across a (relatively) low mileage (110,000) automatic 4x4 '01 XJ that was a state of CA fleet vehicle (so excellent maintenance). I pulled all the good stuff off the '91 body (bastard back springs, ACOS adjusters and coils, JK rubicon rims and tires, manual trans and transfer case) and swapped it into the '01. So at this point I have a very clean manual 4x4 '01 with a ~3" lift and 32" tires. The long term goal is to swap the iron black 5.7Liter LS1 I have sitting in my garage to have a really good daily driver/weekend toy.

Since purchasing the '01, my kids and I have been all over the desert north of my house (there's jeep trails all around me) and we are definitely loving it.

Right on... Sounds like you did pretty good there this time. Yep, kids and 4x4's go together. Raised three out boonie hopping and camping, now we are enjoying this with the Grandkids. We like educating them about the wildlife, plants and native history of the desert. And they like driving the Jeep, we disable the airbag, drop it in first low and let them have at it. lol

Stealthy is down in that area and could probably point you to some nice places to go check out. He gets around pretty good and has posted quite a few great pictures here if you go back aways on this thread.

Welcome again and give us a shout if you need anything and please share your adventures!

Right on CL, good deal. Hey, just a suggestion. Under your user name on the left there is a spot that shows your vehicle. Yours currently says Cherokee (SJ). The SJ was the larger Wagoneer that came out in 1963 and the Cherokee version SJ came out in 1974. Might want to click on User CP and correct that to XJ. Again, welcome aboard!

Done, thanks for the heads up. I didn't set that up when I joined so I'm guessing SJ is the default.

Oh, that's where they find all the Clovis points... Did you know that this particular area is where they find the most Clovis points in the U.S? Have you got on GE and checked that area out yet? There was farming going on there BEFORE the deluge. I have a good friend and doctor of anthropology who lives down there and what he has found is absolutely incredible. It changes known history man...

The San Pedro River basin has one of the oldest histories in North America man. They have found artifacts older than the Bible there.

But wait, can't be ??? lol... This is what I do man. I will share it with you if you are interested. Remember I asked you about weird things in the white mountains? You will not believe what I have to share about that my friend.
