Hey guys, newb just wanting to say whats up and let you know that I'm down to go wherever whenever as soon as I can get the xj's issues resolved... Still trying to figure out my hvac, column, guage lights, and running warm issues... Hoping to get this stuff figured out within the next couple of weeks, then I'll be ready for a monthly wheeling trip regardless of where it is.

If I had my choice I'd be done now in order to go out this weekend with a couple of friends of mine with XJ's also, but thats not gonna happen... I'm not sure about the running warm thing, it had the gauges with the idiot lights in it when I first got it, I just swapped them for the real gauges and thats when I found out it was running warm; and thats just at idle. I cant drive it yet to see if it does overheat or not because I ran into a problem with the column that I was swapping out, the sector shaft on the new one is shorter than the old one, so I'm still trying to figure out what to do about that... The hvac is only blowing out through the defroster vents, it's putting out a tiny bit of white smoke which I'm not worried about unless it's a head gasket issue, and on top of this, my gauge lights aren't working... So, it might be awhile, It might not be... I'm hoping the guys on the forum can help me out with my posts so that it will be sooner opposed to later... But, my goal is to have it ready by the end of the month. Unfortunately, my friends with XJ's are new to theirs also, and aren't exactly the mechanic types anyway, so they aren't much help, and this is my first XJ, so it's completely unfamiliar to me.

Tankerblade,
I'll take you up on the offer of building a skid for the tank. Its the one thing holding me back from heading out. So I don't fill this thread PM me and let me know how you would like to work it out. Catch you soon.
Does everyone have an opinion or way of rating trails for this post or when we start a separate post on the outing? Is there a system or 1-10? My crap is pretty nice, and I am not in a stage yet to wrinkle sheet metal and wack off my fender flares.
My XJ is one of the nicest 4x's I've owned and skid plate scratches/dents and Arizona pin stripes is all I want in collateral damage right now.

From the research I have done so far, I am going to run a jumper and switch so I can force my electric fan on. I have read other posts that this method works well, especially with hood vents, to help curb the hot running XJ's. Yes, bs, these rigs just run hot. That little cross flow up front just doesn't have enough surface area to dissipate heat enough when idling while wheeling. Hinge spacers jacking up the back of the hood for additional venting is a definite option as well. If you look at my pics, the tranny cooler and spacing helped me as well- but I'm an auto. Also, I plan on putting a oil cooler on it for cooling and capacity. Summit Racing and Quadratec both have decently priced ones for about 100 bones.

if anyone is interested going out to martinez mine. The majority of the rigs are going to stop at martinezcabin and we may have a rock crawler attempt to go out to the mine. So the rest of us will be walking. If your interested let me know
