Guess the first step would be in getting the rear end up off the ground unloading the springs. Any tips other than having a lift? Jack I have I think might get the tire up off the ground lifting from the axle, but nothing to unload the suspension. I have an 8# maul which should be decent enough to move the bushing out.
put the jack stands on the unibody rails and then lower the axle with the floor jack

today i went up to abq to trade my bros mustang with him we wqere going down central and i saw a real nice xj it was in the 96-01 range silver custom front bumper matching the paint job with bout a 6 inch lift and im not sure on the size of tire i was oogling it so i was wondering if anyone knows who drives it...
also Jrock were you driving up central about 7ish? i saw a white xj that looks similar to yours

Just go out there. Yea its better if you take someone else with you just in case (stuck, roll over, breake something, crazy guy running with a ax) the usually stuff. I go out there all the time to learn the roads, esp when I'm out there in the night.
