So as many of you know i am getting PCS'd to England in April..i am now in a delima..the wife has given me(kinda) the option of taking my jeep with us if we can..what do y'all think i should do. If i take it i can continue to fix it and definitely make it much much better due to getting deployed and making a lot more money, if i sell it i can pretty much buy what ever i want when i get there to an extent, but i just can't justify to myself dumping money into something i am going to have to sell in four years..what do y'all think i should do?

The dude I bought my 98 from has a 99 he was selling for a parts vehicle for $600 for everything. I'm sure you can get the axle from him.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, if he's letting all of it go for $600 then you can probably get the front axle for cheap.
Ill see if I can

Sigh, his 87 already has a 44 compared to your 35 . The way I see a rig is how much money and time you've thrown at it. How many people honestly keep their rig stock. So "Polishing a turd" really doesn't apple to jeep owners. Go check out how many CJs are still out on trails.

So to conclude my point, if you're happy with the rig you got, pay to get it overseas. I know I wouldn't bother personally, because you don't have a lot in it if your specs are updated. I would part it out or sell it as is. The D44 alone would get you $200+ depending on gearing.

I have a 8.25 not a 35 know facts before you try n hate on other people.
This subject is all personal preferance man. Personally I got a 98 because the after market is better then my 89 and it being a 21 yr old car all the little stuff like vacuum lines and **** start needing replacement fender lines and doors don't close. To me it makes sense to invest in something a little nicer and reliable.
but hey to each his own.

It was based off your specs. I'm not hating, and you're right it is personal preferance. Some people don't mind replacing old vacuum/venting lines which usually they've replaced already due to longer suspension travel anyhow

All I'm saying is over the minimal time I spend on this site (in this thread) I notice you have a judgement over small jobs that are easily tackled Mario. I have even offered to help you with the things you had going wrong on your 2door before you purchased your 4door.

Just because it is an 87 doesn't mean he can't go buy a 91 in a junkyard for less than $500 and use 90% of the parts on it.

The real personal preference here is how much do you value this jeep and is it enough to pay to overseas.(original poster)

Oh my specs are the 2 door. I needa update em.
My 2 door hasn't had any issues other then the 3.07 gears and 33s and the ****ty pro comp tires??? So what are you talking about??? I got the four door cuz I got a killer deal on it and I needed a more practical yet wheelable jeep If your talking about painting it I really don't care about the paint, my neighbor has a shop in lunas and offered to paint it if I bought the paint.
I'm saying a newer platform would be a better place to start from even if he did swap the parts he wanted over from his to a new one.

And your last two statements are what I'm saying.

Im going to eventually do the 4.5' Iron rock Offroad long arm kit along with some other goods. About you needing a bumper I have the stock one that came off of my '97, no plastic corners though. If it will work for your jeep your welcome to it.

i wouldn't have to pay a dime to ship it, and YES one of the biggest reasons i wanted to take it was the D44, but i agree with mario and it will be getting sold, If i do decide to build a jeep when i get back to the states it will probably get full width swapped and only be a wheeler, my jeep would get attacked by rust that it doesn't have right now and probably not even be worth bringing back to the states with me if i took it. Plus i looked into the UK's MOT inspection, i would probably have to easily drop a grand if not more to get my jeep running and stopping as well as steering and what not the way they want it to. I would pretty much have to replace every vacuum line(i hate vacuum lines) on the jeep and my whole front steering setup cause it really needs an adjustable trac-bar, so now everything is all loosy goosie, but she doesn't wobble too bad. Again like i said it just isn't worth me taking it so probably around december or november time frame it will be getting thrown on craigslist. It will be a sad day and i may even shed a tear or tow when it rolls away, but it is what i have decided to do.

FULL WIDTH FTW!?!?
I'm on the hunt for a hp44 n 9" since 37's is all I wanna go.
But yeah honestly it seems like the best thing to do.
I wanna make my 98 a trail only rig and cruise like another clean eg hatch that gets 35+ miles a gallon because this 15mpg highway is murdering me. The older xjs just aren't worth fixing up because almost everything is vacuum controlled and its hunting junkyards for parts since its so old and even then **** at the junkyard is mediocre at best. Take my advise and put you xj up for sale now because I'm having a ***** of a time selling my 89 with a stroker n moderately built.
