Default Replacing Steering Box?

Anyone replaced a steering box lately?

Looks like mine is shot. Going to try tightening it up tomorrow, but I'm not exactly holding out hope.

If tightening doesn't work, I'm going to ordered a RedHead and would like to get it swapped out before the 14th (heading down to Gordy's), or the 21st (heading to Baja) at the latest.

As I understand it it is relatively simple, other than disconnecting the hoses. Anyone have first hand experience they'd care to share?

You can rebuild it also its actually pretty simple. I done my neighbors on his cadillac two years ago. The kit is about 1/4 cost of a replacement box or, upgrade to the Durango box instead better gear ratio. Either way your going to have to pull it anyways. If you can pull a axle you can do the gear box. If not stop by I got a warm shop and all tne tools to do it.

Well its already off and at the machine shop to check it out I think I know what happened. When I redid the block I didn't put any sealant on the head bolt on the intake side since it threads into the water jacket, since it just didn't seem right. Or I have a crack on cylinder 1.

Since your here..... you mentioned aw4 upgrades using supra solenoid and clutch packs. I've research a little bit about, what's the most common reason besides a stronger and firmer shift that will allow less power to slip by due to the loss of clutch slippage?

It's cracked the head in-between the intake and exhaust valves. So about 200 bucks later, and 5 days later its running again. Need to drain oil and run water for a bit to see what it does or gives any surprises. This is one things that I'd rather pull the motor out then do it in the vehicle.
