I have a locked front diff, I have locking hubs, I run my hubs locked any time I am going off pavement for the entire time, weather thats a dirt road, a trail or I am even in 2wd until I get to a point where i need 4wheel drive, then i just shift into 4wd. There should be no reason you can't drive on a dirt road in 2wd or 4wd with a locked front diff, you may need to adjust driveling habits but it should only help

(this one has a cable conversion but still. same thing)
no sir, but the early models had a disconnecting axle which would allow the front to spin independently from each other and the diff would free-spin

when things get hot/cold air expands/contracts, it allows air to come in and out without sucking water and debris into the diff. If it didn't have the breather the pressure would push out a seal and leak all the fluid lol

makes sense. my seals are shot, when on a slight angle the fluid drains out the tube
