front or rear
That said, locking either end will always be a huge change. And again...each end will have superior and inferior characteristics to the other.

Tire carrier
Uh-oh...my tire carrier just broke clean off the bumper
I guess hitting it on rocks and such and the load of the 35" tire over 4 years took it's toll. I sent the vendor a message about it - we'll see if anything comes of that. In the meantime, anyone want to make me a tire carrier for free? j/k

Lock them both or you have a weak link. Only truth in the F or R argument IMO lol
I love having the rear locked. IN the snow its a little easyer to drive with open front locked rear. So doing it again (unless selectable) I would lock the rear with a auto locker. then the front if you felt the need to lock both (how could you not?) lol

Did the welds break? spindle just rip off? or did it snap where the tire mounts?
There are a lot of angry threads about that. I used to think the rear was more helpful as well, but kinda changed my mind. Although in the end it is more about your wheeling style and terrain than anything. With selectables front and rear, I experimented and ended up getting further with the front only than the rear only when hitting the same obstacles. Since the weight is more on the rear when climbing, logic dictates having both those tires turning is the smarter way to go...but having both fronts going has a tendency to let the front end find it's way to traction, and is helpful in mounting ledges.
That said, locking either end will always be a huge change. And again...each end will have superior and inferior characteristics to the other.

1. Front dig or front wheel only suck when that's all you got. Like scooting on your butt, sitting on a skateboard.
2. Go with the stronger axle. Putting all the stress on the front is going to lead to problems.
3. If your front hubs are always locked it, such as on a dana 30, It effects your on road driving alot more then in the rear.
4. Selectable all the way for the front on a road rig. You still get to use your 4x4 when it does snow. A locker is something you don't want in the icy snowy roads.
