ordered my new durango steering box today... last night i took the drag link off the pitman arm and i could move the pitman arm back and forth enough to make me worry. and i was able to tighten the box bolts a bit too. so my easter is gonna be spent learning how the gear box works haha

Back and forth is ok for a safety, its the up and down part.

It really comes down to what work you feel like doing... Axle work, or interior... for 2000 I would hope they are in good condition....

Not bad for $3500, or $4500 with trailer, IMO lol (but looks can be deceiving)

Yeah that's the thing they are not lol I would need a tow truck to get home but with some work could have two more rigs.
4500 is not bad but I couldnt say I did anything to it someone else built my rig lol fail :-)

Side to side is ok, just because the steering goes side to side. I've tried to fail many chevy idler and pitman arms. Dealerships say its allowed, my shop has even been talked to by the UHP about this.
Maybe I should specify, idler and pitman arms are meant to move side to side as well, It's the up and down movement of the idler and pitman arms that is a no fly zone.

Straight from the book... http://publicsafety.utah.gov/safetyi...T%20Manual.pdf

PITMAN ARM
1. Check pitman arm.
a. REJECT when:
1) Gearbox output shaft has movement inside pitman arm.
2) Any welded repair is present.

up/down/left/right/north/south/west/east

Lol, I wont even go to Oreilly's/pepboys/autozone anymore because of that lol. when I had just finished my axle swap I loved asking for locking hubs and front wheel bearings and races for my 2000 cherokee, and pointing to it in the parking lot, while they tried and tried to find the parts for a D44 front axle...

I also love answering the wrong questions...

Store- What engine size?
Me- its blue I think (looking puzzled)
Store- 4.0 or 2.5?
Me- yeah its 4 wheel drive... at least it has a shifter I think....

haha, stupid computers... I love my parts department... they hate me though

I'm not here to argue with you, but its not like I do this for a living, or the last 6yrs, 11hrs a day, 5 days a week, 55-60 cars a day. I guess every chevy truck that comes through my shop should fail?
Most the time its the gear box moving anyway, not the pitman arm.
