[QUOTE="spiral_energy;2284284"]the biggest thing about the 242 is that im used to having the full time option. Quote
My 231 is full time until bush the stick forward its no different same thing

explain this to me. the manual says "DO NOT DRIVE ON DRY PAVEMENT IN PART TIME". I assume you'd destroy the transfer case having it locked in 50/50.
As far as im concerned i count the 231 as "missing" an option. My limited had a different steering setup compared to all of your xj's too. it was an odd cherokee.

[quote=spiral_energy;2285169]Unless the vehicle is designed to drive in 4x4 on road, dont do it. Driving in part time 4x4 on dry pavement can cause binding, you should only put it in 4x4 part time when its needed, such as on terrain where your tires can slip.

so is aftermarket support the only reason why you guys prefer a 231? I also edited my post you quoted.
edit: i suppose a simpler xfer case is preferred.

[quote=spiral_energy;2285184]Mainly the 231 has a stronger case and also theres more after market parts to really beef them up. For the few aftermarket upgrades there are for the 242, it will be more money than the 231's. The 242s are still a good t-case, especially if you want 4x4 on pavement.

Well after moving out of KC in 03 looks like we are heading back to Johnson county at the end of the month. going to be strange living in the city after 9 years in the country in s.w. missouri and the last year up here in the rockies.
