I'm new to the XJ scene. I picked up a 1997 Cherokee Sport from a junkyard down in the hood. I'll post pictures of it later. I'm in Pleasant Hill. I see a few XJ's running around here.
If anyone has a decent steel rear bumper laying around, that'd be pretty sweet....
Also, had a question about the loads of the rear bumper. I've looked at some of the different ways to mount them and it looks damn solid but I was really wanting to buy a motorcycle rack to put in the receiver hitch. It will only be a 270 pound bike or so but was curious to hear some opinions on this.

Welcome to the XJ club!
Unless you are looking at an integrated hitch bumper I don't think you need to worry about the bumpers load capabilities. Most hitches mount behind the bumper using the nut strips inside the "frame". If that is in good shape it should be able to handle that load, but I would be more concerned about the condition of your leaf springs.
If they are factory, with that much weight hanging off the back end you are going to see considerable sag of your rear end. I would put some heavy duty leafs on the back to handle the weight.
Good luck!

My rear leafs are brand new. I just installed the rough country 4.5" lift with 31 1/2 Nitto Terra Grapplers. Might actually make the damn thing ride smooth.
I was doing some reading about changing the rear shackles to make it ride smoother. It seems others have just went with the Zone rear springs.

Just joined the flock... and oh boy do I have that Jeep addiction.
I was in my PreCalc at UMKC today and was talking about my Jeep to this guy and this girl walks in. Well the professor walks in and asks me hows the Jeep cause we talked about it last Friday and the girl turns round to me and says "Since I've walked in all you've done is talk about that Jeep." I just kinda looked at her and responded with, "It's a Jeep thang. You ain't gonna understand."

Nicely done. I'm in st. Joseph and don't know of any close to here. If you're not wanting to drive a few hours away private land is pretty much your only option aside from old beat up dirt roads
