next time yall go towards the gap let me know - thats only about 1 1/2 hrs - 2 hrs tops drive for me - get me some good directions and im in.
might be having the engine rebuilt soon (leaking oil out of the head gasket and 223K miles on engine) so just let me know ahead of time the dates so i can schedule that before or after the ride.
is the gap mud, sand, rocks, trails or what? and how big is the area? is it a camping thing or day trip?

U can camp... But no point cause its really small... Some trails with a few mud holes if u want... Some man made hills.... Some man made rock gardens if u want but buggies only really... Nothing crazy... Good learning place... They are only open like 6 weekends a year or some crap... Ones coming up actually but its some kinda rock race thing... I dont see that being much fun since they only have one rock wall and we made it in Stykers open/open on 30's xj... Lol... Although some buggies were breaking and couldnt make it so I dunno... Lol...

found the website to the GAP - looks like a place i should have kept my fourwheeler and SXS for. i love mud in those but not so much in a daily driver.
back in the day when tellico was open we would go up there but our favorite places wr around helen GA and they wr just forest service trails. we got a map at helen's visitor center and it had the areas and trails that wr open to public marked. at first i only had 32's on an IFS s10 and so it was challanging to me but there was also some trails that went off the main trail that wr not marked and took much larger tires, lockers and a winch to go down that we later tried when i got a CJ7 with 35's and lockers. any of yall hit those trails or know if they are still open - i know tellico is closed.

real slow today at work so iv been doing a lot of searching for places to drive and got intouch with us forest serv and found the trails i use to go on and there are maps available online or you can go to an office and pick one up. they dont like to mail them out. we use to camp out on them and fish by streams. not a hardcore trail system but a nice place to take the wife, & family or girlfirend or even head up there with your buddys to do some trout fishing and basic offroading from what i remember.
http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/conf/home
this is the main page -
then click on "maps and publications"
then click on "motor vehicle use maps"
you will see the 4 areas of maps that you can download.

Yea, we have a place right outside of Helen and I ride those trails all the time. There's a few good ones with in 15 min of Helen. Trey mtn is a good one, but it's nothing crazy. Beasley **** is over in blairsville, ga and its pretty intense at places. I had a full size chero on tons and 42s and there were some things I couldn't do. It's pretty tight up on top too.

The gap is in auburn, and it's a good day ride. Pretty small but will keep you entertained for a day or so.

I'm planning on going to Aetna the weekend if the 15th if I'm recovered from some dental surgery I'm having that tue.
