It's never been this dirty before with only 3.5k on it. I used to go every 5k and do it. I have to put in about 3-4 quarts whenever I change it so it's not like it's all old lol... And I only have 183k, she ain't old lol

I have always been taught every 3k and it bein winter and the heater runnin constantly and the lights on more cause of less daylight, colder mornings, means thickdr oil and quicker it wears, do it every 3k and skip havin to buy new seals, oil pump, ect when ya get 200k. Its east maintenance and hell nothing can make flames on a fire like burnt motor oil. Occasionally its ok to go to 5k but there is a reason why the owners manual and shops recommend 3k changes. In the 80's the constant rebuilds of motors at 150k was diminished to much higher when every 3k was norm.

Yea it recommend the same and both carries spin the same cause u got them auto hubs. Unless u got lsd then ya need 75w-140 with friction modifier and good lick with finding that, i had to go pricy synthetic and wasted a quart.

I went with Rotella t6 in da engine and from what ive read...its exactly what the 4.0 craves.

I just used advance auto 80w90 in the diff. Need to change my tranny fluid just to make sure the PO didnt put monster energy drinks in it or something similar.

Haha u sound like me, i maintenance everything on my ol xj, didnt trust anyone. There is a lotta contraversy on ever changin the atf. Have u checked the color from the dipstick? I changed mine tho no prob. Id use those gear oil bottles if i were u tho, yers not havin a tc drop i couldn't imagine gettin oil back in it. But gear oil bottle would help, i used a adjustable skinny funnel. Lets just say yer floor will thank ya if u use the gear oil bottle lol.

Yea mine looked like motor oil, lol, y i changed it. U have to fill it to like 1/8 of an inch from top of fill hole. The tube would wrk but still gotta open the fill hole. Unless u catch what comes out, measurs it then put that amount back in. All 4-5 quarts wont come out, most is still trapped in valve body. Thats the way my dad did his 01 tacoma which has the aw4 too but no fill hole, its like aw4t or something fords were sonething like aw4od

Yip it sure does, so does royal purple, but both were beat price wise compared to castrol, just easier to find lucas and royal purple. Lucas is the cheaper of the 2 upper escalone gear oil, and prib about the same stuff as royal purple.
