Remove wheels, brakes, shafts, cover, cross shaft, spiders.

Install locker, cross shaft, cover fluid, shafts, brakes, wheels.

Done.

1-2 hours TOPS.

Nice, thanx, ill prolly need to set aside 2-4 hours cause ill prolly screw up ir lose a part, lol. Wouldn't u need to remove the cover befote u can move shafts?

You don't have to.

If you want to lessen the gear oil mess it wouldn't be a bad idea.

What keeps the axle shaft in the carrier? Thought there was a clip, like a c-clip or the g-lookin clip.

A Dana 30 isn't a c-clip axle. You remove the 3 hub bolts from the back side of the knuckle and the hub comes off with the knuckle and the shaft slides out.

The flange on the stub shaft and the axle nut hold the axle in place.

I do find it strange that you know all about Dana 300s and nothing about Dana 30's.

Haha all about the trade lol, never wrked on one, never had the need, but my tcase fell out and so came the knowledge, lol. Always had 3.73 gears and auto hubs, only thing i have ever done to an axle is bearin wrk and maintenance.

Never whelled hard enoigh to snap a 8.25, d30, or amc 20. But now that i got 35's on a d30 and hopefully an aussie soon, im sure ill need to fill up on as much knowledge as I can get.

Dana 30's are pie to work on once you master the art of removing the unit-bearing.

yeah. Use a 13mm 12pt box end wrench to remove them. Anything else will strip them.

Then there's a few tricks to get it off the knuckle. I have a spare bolt that I use. I thread the spare bolt in half way then start beating it with a hammer then move it to the next hole and beat it. Eventually, it'll fall right off.

OR you can just start beating on the WMS but that may damage the bearing.

What 13 mm? Where are dana's made? If there in america and use netric bolts, shame shame. Ill move to a 12 bolt, lol

1/2" would probably fit on there but I use 13mm and feel that it's a better fit.

On my 2wd one, I could fit an impact on mine once it was off. I kept those bearings. So your saying take all three off, thread the extra bolt in the pound in it and repeat on the other two holes?

Yup, but the bolt you choose to use will only ever be used for this purpose. The head mushrooms like a *****. I used to carry that bolt in my center console all the time.

Make sure you thread the beating bolt in a few turns before you wail on it.
