So today I had the excellent idea of taking apart my transfer case because the grinding noise when i let off the gas while driving was believed to be the transfer case chain stretched. naturally with 211,000 miles that's what I think it would be, So what did I do? Open it up to see!!
The chain had quite a bit if slack..... but was not rubbing against the inner walls just yet, (sounded like it was though).
Thennnn I took out my transfer case chain and the front driveshaft!!! lol Because I'm too broke to order a new chain at the moment, (Gas needs and all) so I figure I'll install a new chain next next weekend.... No sense in putting in the front drive shaft so I left it in the garage.
Anywaysssss. After testing the car around the block there was absolutely no change in the grinding noise when I let off the gas. So I go home, jack up the back, put it in drive,
(I don't know why I did not hear the noise coming from the rear diff before but now I did) ....
So I'm guessing a 350 dollar Yukon Gear Axle rebuild with new Bearings and Spider gears? (Did that to my tahoe, Good as new!) HOPING it's not the ring & Pinion.
So what did Y'all do today?
Here the few photos I took! What's a post without photos??
Driveshaft Extended
Driveshaft Compressed

Sureit aint something In the drums broken spring can cause very similar grinding . That front shaft should come out more than that.
