Previous times it'll do a sudden cut off/on backfire but it wouldn't sideline me at all....I'll still be driving no problems after the the quick cut off and backfire
Haven't replaced the dist. Cap and rotor since that photo
Do you have a tach and does it drop to nothing when this happens?

Instantly it drops to zero rpms....
Then a split second or 2 cuts on and rides the rest of the drive like nothing happened....
You don't even have time pop the clutch(mines manual) or even to pull over to the side.....

Thats an indication that it's not on the secondary side of the ignition (cap, rotor, wires, or plugs) since the tach operates off the coil primary negative side. Does this have an external ignition module or is the coil driver in the PCM?

The 2.5L TBI has an external ICM just like the Renix 4.0L with a top mount coil. Only things that send signal to the ICM is the CPS and the Oil pressure sensor which will kill spark if oil pressure drops below a safe level.

88, I have spare ICMs and Coils if you would like to try swapping it out, free of charge.
