Thanks for the heads up! Yeah I replaced my neg and pos battery cables not long after I got it (they were really bad! melted and 60% bare wire) but haven't touched any other wiring. I'll check the starter relay first! I really need to clean up my grounds again and do all of Crusiers tips too!

Wow and I thought mine was bad! I wondered why the PO had put a piece of PVC tubing around the positive cable? Until I removed it and saw it was just practically bare wire and melted plastic! Crazy that the PO would spend the time to put the tubing on rather then just replace the wire! Glad i'm not the only one though!

So my wife was awesome enough to call out AAA to take a look while I was at work. They said it was a bad cell in my battery? I've had bad battery before but never had just the one click sound I heard this morning. Normally its the rapid clicking. Anyway they wanted to put a crappy group 58 battery in for $150 so I said No. I'll use this opportunity to upgrade to a Group 34 with some better CCA. I'm just worried I replace the battery and still have an issue. Would a bad battery really cause the one click? Any thoughts anyone?

So I took the battery out and put multimeter on it. Got 6.9v took it to autozone and they got bad cell reading too. Anyway long story short I got a Excide Extreme 34x battery from home depot. It was on sale and my XJ being my DD it didn't wanna worry about the battery. Threw the new one and and starts up first time! Volt meter even reads 14v for the first time since I've had it (well close to 14 ish).
I think I seriously have to put some time a side this weekend though to do all cruisers tips and finish tidying up my grounds though cos it still idles a little off, lights flicker brighter and dimmer while idling. Also if I turn headlights on, fog lights and put blower on high I noticed the volt meter drops into the red. Hopefully just needs some tlc. Got a can of electrical connector cleaner and reserved some new ground wires from Napa which I'll get 2moro and cruisers tips to get me started.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.
Thanks Free, for the link.
I did some poking around under the hood, and the PO, had already done the mod for the voltage meter. I put my multimeter on the battery, while it was running, and barely got 13.1 volts. Just enough to charge it, but with more than the headlights on, it starts to go down real fast. I'll upgrade the wires this afternoon, and see if it improves.
I'm gonna use some bulk 4awg wire from an electrical supply place, and brass terminals that I had left over from my boat. Should work, right?
