Got a pic? If not, I'll send ya one of my calipers. The outer pad should be tight against the caliper, if not, bend the tabs till it does. As for the inside (piston side) it too should be tight against the piston. If not.....you guessed it, bend the tabs till it does.
Now there is a "Anti-rattle" plate/tab that goes inside the caliper, on the top. Same thing, bend/tweak it until it's snug.

Ok, you have that style. If the clips are now on right, there's nothing much you can do except tweak that clip.

Yeah what I might do later in the year is pick up new to me(junkyard) 93+ knuckles and "upgrade" to the newer style brake calipers and pads...

I did that to my old Xj for the larger piston caliper mainly.

Later model Xjs, think its 94+, have a slightly larger (not by much but bigger) piston. This was to compliment the larger vacuum booster w/ABS.

Guys, if you get a chance or are interested, Morris 4x4 has one of the Smittybuilt Xj front bumpers on sale for 100 bucks (its a "scratch n dent") Check it out.
