It's way different with the pistols and carbine rifles...You have to have a CCW for that, don't think there is any way around it...
My experience: Tell them about it first thing, unload it if load before you stop(not while he's walking up to the car!!), and never make any sudden moves after you stop and they have recognized that you have a weapon. I always have asked to stand by their car or on the curb, so they know I'm not going to try anything stupid. They have always respected this in my opinion!!!

Your choice, mine always has a mag in it, no matter what...Maybe not one in the chamber but that way I only need to **** it and shoot, or just release the mag and put it in the console if the man decides he wants to talk to ya...
