there are actually 3 o-rings for the oil filter adapter, not just the one big one.

Anyone know of a good body shop that they trust, and can also assess a rear axle for damage?

Heh!! No ****!!! Most of 'em are a bunch of hacks, but there's still some that have some integrity and take pride in what they do. Possibly have issues, the wifey's Wrangler got hit in the right rear a couple of weeks ago. Some impatient ******* decided where they had to be was more important than everybody else on the road and tried to pass my wife on the right when she was in the middle of a right turn. The right rear has been vibrating and making a howling noise ever since. The insurance company wants us to get an estimate, but none will look at the axle until it's in the shop for the actual repair. I really need to find one that will pull the axle shaft, if for nothing else than peace of mind. I don't want to find after it's all said and done that I need to replace the shaft or worse, a D44 housing on my dime.

worm--is there body damage?--if not you can take it to any mechanical shop for triage-your insurance co. will pay for it, if there is body damage------well thats a nudder story--i dont mind getting "body work" don at a body shop-but mechanical needs to be done at a mechanical shop--just my 2$$

I with you. The body damage isn't bad, but it's damage nonetheless. That's the dilemma. The insurance co. isn't going to assess the axle due to the labor involved just for an estimate. They want the final repair shop to do it.

very unlikely the housing is bent - the bearing is toasted or the shaft is a little bent. I'd just call a shop and get a written estimate to R&R the drivers side rear axle shaft and bearing. If more damage is found during the repair any shop can write a additional work invoice for the insurance company to pay.

Besides, they can't tell you to get an estimate - it's their responsibility to provide the cost estimate for the required repairs. Why are you having to do anything except meet with their estimator?

I have a great shop that i know will look at the truck and give you the estimate for the axle if you want. It's in Spencerville, MD.
