I am NOT a snake oil guy...I hate all the additives that everyone tells you put in your engine for this and for that. I somewhat believe in seafoam...but generally the rest are crap.
Well....I am looking at a top end rebuild sometime soon due to some noisy lifters. I wanted to extend the time until I do it, and did some research...I settled on this product:
Restore Engine Restorer and Lubricant with CSL 6-Cylinder Formula
Well...I ran Mobile 1 Full synthetic with some MMO for a week....did nothing to help, so I went back to Rotella 15w-40 and added a can of the above.
It is a blue substance, not a viscosity additive, but claims to be able to fill in cracks in metal components, quiet chatter, and help leaky seals. Claims to restore your engine as the title suggests. Kinda thick, but not as thick as, say, Lucas.
5 qts oil, and 1 can Restore.
IMMEDIATELY upon first start, my ticking/knock was GONE. It was absolutely amazing, and is only $8.97 at Walmart.
I am impressed thusfar, but will continue to update as to whether it is a very temporary, or longer term solution.
Thanks....I rarely endorse a SPECIFIC product, but I am sold on this one.
Description from manufacturer:
Restore Engine Restorer and Lubricant is a high performance oil additive that increases compression in older high-mileage engines. The unique CSL formula fills worn areas of the cylinder walls to reduce blow-by and restore compression to near original levels. Restoring cylinder compression improves combustion to increase horsepower, reduce oil burning, maximize fuel mileage and restore peak engine performance. In addition, it provides excellent EP lubrication to help protect engine components from excessive wear under severe operating conditions.

If anyone has a tap/dye set and an easy out array, bring with tomorrow. Broke the top water neck bolt in the head, kind of need to get it out.
