I'm gonna take starter down and have it checked Sunday....going by what Kyle told me its not looking good. Also taking load tester for battery...
Once I get it running again I'll check alternator.
Looking to get her one with a warranty due to her financial situation
Gotta make this trip count, last one for a while...

I'm not sure if my alternator was bad or not. I can test it and if it's good mava can have it. I'll bring it Sunday just let me know.

once and for all - an bad alternator will NOT keep you from starting the truck (well...unless it's seized of course)

If they don't need/want it, the bearings in mine are going bad I could use it.

Did he clean and tighten the battery terminals?

the alternator, but the truck will still start off the battery power alone (it always does). Believe me...i've been there...several times lol. Most recently the beginning of this month (damn you Bowie State...).

You can drive for a good couple hours with a marginal battery and a non-functioning alternator. I drove 1 1/2 hrs from Green Ridge at night with a blown alternator.

Yes he did...negative was loose
Before I tear anything apart, gonna charge battery and load check.... if battery is bad not gonna accept charge, therefore not start vehicle. If that checks good going to go underneath and figure out where smoke was coming from on starter.....
can't check alternator unless it is running....

sounds like a good plan to me. Also try taking the starter off and clean up the mating surface between it and the engine block. I had a starting issue a while back and it turned out to be a grounding problem - that fixed it.

if it's smoking though starter is probably seized. Didn't know that before.

I agree totally, I've done it on more than one occasion myself But battery voltage was at +/-7V when key was turned to start position. Shouldn't dip that low....
When jumper cables were put on smoke came from starter....maybe loose wire, I wasn't there so I don't know
Gonna start with charging the battery first, load check it and work back....
