let me just say you guys are amazing help lol.. its been a huge learning experience with this jeep since the previous owner completly half a$$'d the front end and the floors being completely rusted through.
but i have another problem now.. while i am driving there is a metal clacking noise comming from the shifter area (its a manual trans). i had the same noise when i had my wrangler and one day i went to shift into second and the whole shifter came out.
we checked the shifter (tugged and pulled on it) and it seems like its not going anywhere so something tells me thats not the issue. the sound is kind of hard to explain but its almost like the sound of a spin wheel on a game show but metal. lol.

...fambily... lol
and I found out that the cv centering yoke that I was going to replace is unavailable. called Advance this morning to order it (because the guy yesterday said I could) and was told they can't even get it. So it looks like I'll just be getting the ball repair kit instead.

Looks like it was a good time. Next time can we try to shoot for Saturday? It's a couple hour drive for me and it would be easier if it wasn't Sunday so I was rushing back home to get up at 430 Monday morning. I would like to come and meet more of you guys sometime soon. This weekend is last minute prep for Big Dogs, and next is Ice Breaker so I'm out til May, but after that I'm down for whatever.

X2 with Mike, also, does the clank get faster as your speed increases? Could be the linkage impacting the yoke on the T/C. They sit pretty close together as is and any flex would bring them close enough for impact. If you disco the drive shafts and spin the yoke and hear the noise, I would crack the case and check the links on the chain and the gears on the output shafts. Granted it would be easier to just buy a new T/C, service it up and throw it in, just unsure if you want to go that route. Nothing special needed to crack the case, just your basic sockets and a lot of patience, oh and a torque wrench to put it all back together. Just depends on what you want to do. How much lift you running and do you have a SYE?
is it okay to still drive it? i drive the jeep about 60 miles a day.
and im on a Rusty's 4 inch lift...i think, maybe 6. i know its a rustys lift but iv never measured it. excuse my non jeep lingo but what SYE's? lol

now that i think about it...when i had my wrangler i had the TC re built after that happened. Thank you! and yes its almost like a cha cha cha cha cha sound.
yes! it does get louder as i drive faster, doesnt make the noise while driving unless im off the gas though.

X2 Hooray for Saturday. I'll definitely be able to make it to one on Saturday, just not for the next couple weekends. Don't want to risk breaking anything before I go beat the **** out of it at Big Dogs. lol

wheni put my lift on I'll need SYE, should I just get a HacknTap? or should I get an actual one? also with the driveshaft, you can use a front driveshaft off an XJ right? so I could go to a Junkyard and get one, until I get a better one or something?

I'm going to say that you don't have a SYE (slip yoke eliminator) and that the increase in lift and driveline angles is pulling on the stock slip yoke of your rear output shaft, causing it to "wobble" when not under load. Mine was doing the same thing. It will slowly get worse because the tension on it is causing the ring in the oil provider to be forced beyond full range of motion. If you crack your case you'll more than likely find metal shavings in there where the output shaft is chipping away at the output bearing and oil ring. Time for a SYE and new rear drive shaft.
yeah i guess i dont have one, that makes sence... thank you for the break down. looks like this weekend we'll be pulling the TC out.
seems like the only decent thing that was from the original owner is the posi-locked rear and rims/tires lol.
