how did the head look underneath? Could just be that the head gasket blew, but looking at it who knows how long it was ran like that. I see some scoring on the piston skirting but it doesn't look terrible. I'd probably clean up the pistons, install a new head gasket and the other head, and run it. If you have good oil pressure and no coolant loss after that you should be ok.

i would have been suspicious when i showed up and it was already heated up. still a good deal though because you have the extra motor.
how can you see the piston skirts with them still in the motor?

hey guys, I flexed my xj last night to get measurements for bumpstops. But now the jeep pulls to the right. It could and maybe is coincidence that I noticed it now, but anyone have any ideas on why? It doesnt do it under breaking anymore ( so no stuck piston ) and the alignment was out. But i put it back it and well still doing it. any help?

So after wheeling last night my red XJ idles high and won't shift into 2nd gear anymore. What would cause the high idle? The TPS? Where is it and how hard is it to replace?

can you shift at all?

TPS would cause both of those. You probably got it wet. Let it dry out real well (also the connections). Use dielectric grease in the connection boot when you put it back on. Do the same thing with the IAC.
