I got lucky on this one, the jeep had a V-6 in it, which kinda struck me as odd since 86 XJ's didn't have a V-6 that I know of.
Yea some of the early ones did - GM 60 degree v6

the only ****ty part about that axle is the u-joints are way smaller than the ones on older d30's. I would def swap in the axle shafts off your d30 instead.

oh wait...just saw yours is an 89. U-joints will be the same (although you should upgrade to 1995+ axles at the same time will the bigger u-joint)

Def going to do that, want the bigger U-Joint. Figured I would sleeve it while I am at it, don't want any breakage like I saw at Trails

What motor hasn't jeep used throughout the years

word.

Turns out that trackbar i picked up is going to take a bit of work to make it usable. Evidently it was set up for OTK steering and an over the axle mount. The johnny joint won't fit in the stock location evidently...maybe I can cut the stock mount off and box out a new one? Dunno yet need more research.

I would find out who sells the over the axle mount prefabbed, and go that route. Most of that stuff is pretty cheap. $389 with shipping for all of the brackets and an axle truss for my Ford 8.8.

to make that work I'd have to go OTK steering myself, which I don't have the need/money for yet. I just want to look into expanding my stock mount to the correct width to fit the johnny joint at the moment. Need to do some measuring/mock up though first.

Worst case, I cut down the frame mount like I was planning, and get a different track bar to install in it with a OEM bushing on the axle end. Clayton sells those for like $190...

Or...i cut the end off a stock trackbar and have you weld it to the new one in place of the axle side JJ

I see what you are saying now.....
Expanding the stock mount would be pretty easy, grinding the welds off of a stock track bar and going to bushings on the new one would be even easier....
or you could just sell it to me

something like this would be even better - just hack the old mount off, bend some new plate to the right width for the johnny joint, and weld it up
