From what I have read off this site below and what I have researched so far its good. The best bet would be to stop at a State Police barracks and ask. My tires stick out something fierce and the officer I talked to said my Jeep was good to go. My front bumper is 25" off the ground. Just keep in mind that there are many Wranglers that are being sold new from a dealer with the tires sticking out past the fender flares some. There used to be a fender law in MD but its gone now.

Try calling this spot in Forest Hill. I do not think they do inspections, but they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Not according to the Trooper that pulled me over 2 weeks ago. He gave me a warning for my tires sticking out too much.

I guess I have been really misinformed (by a State Trooper no less), and been very lucky so far. Baltimore, Harford, City, Anne Arundel, and even the worst kind Toll cops behind me and they did nothing.

I've been cruising around in my XJ for a year and a half now and no issues. I work nights on the weekends and on my way home I got pulled over for "suspicion of drunk driving". Basically the trooper saw me driving the speed limit at 5am, 66 in a 65 according to him, and he also noticed that I was using my cruise control since my speed wasnt wavering both of which are indicators of drunk driving according to him (crazy I know). He used the tires as an excuse to pull me over and check to see if I was sober, which I was although extremely tired. I doubt under different circumstances he would have bothered me about my tires, they usually dont care about stuff like that.

it all depends on the officer and how bored he is....I've been around lifted trucks for several years now, and one guy i know barely gets bothered, one gets pulled over weekly, and one every month or so....

I got pulled over the first day I was in Maryland for doing 61 in a 55 and he said he was letting me off because of my tires and how far off my speedo is and because I was actually making an effort to go the speed limit, cruise set at 52 on speedo. So I guess it depends on what kind of a mood they are in when they pull you over, helps we were both ex military too I think.
