Ok for those of you that still have working ac or had ac...is it normal for the compressor to cycle off after its been running for 10 min or so? My g/fs malibu does and wasnt sure if the xj did too. Blows cold air then starts warming up. Shut it off and after 15-20 min it blows cold again. Had it charged and pressure tested and passed with flying colors. Hoping i dont have a wiring issue, or maybe the high pressure sensor is bad... anybody have suggestions?

A pressure test involves evacuating the system putting it in a vacuum to remove as much refrigerant as possible. Then charge the system with nitrogen. probably around 250-300 psi. then watch to see if pressure drops. if it drops you have a leak.
You probably have a low charge or debri, or moisture in the system. All of wich can cause freezing in the evaporator and low pressure or possibly a high pressure issue on the discharge side.
Any good shop will cut to the chase and start from scratch. Its really the best way.
Gotta put gauges on it to see whats going on. Could be a bad condenser fan also.

If it was topped off then that means there is a leak.
If it shutting off on a pressure switch it is seen in the gauges. If pressures look good then jump out one switch at a time. or test with a meter to see whats cutting it off. Is the compressor clutch still spinning or is it truly being shut off?
