I would say go with the Firestik 3 way mount with the package. I would pick up one of these: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f11/xj...-mounts-67191/

PM the guy, his forum is closed now due to fraudulent allegations, but if you read through all posts, he makes and sells a good product. RescueGreen, Jeep I just bought has one that this guy sold to PO, and he had nothing but good to say about it. You want mount only, $36 shipped, just specify if you want driver's side or pass side...

I use firestik and personally think they look better on xjs then the pencil thin stainless whips. I also use my radio to chat with buddys not on trail quite frequently and use the weather radio daily. Also

M&G at RC tomorrow and sunday, NACfesters only lol

This coming from an infantry grunt that had the pleasure of learning ASIP, SINCGARS, HARRIS, MBIRTR, and SATCOM radios in afghaniland. Our company RTO blew major *****. I blame it on his lazy eye.
Jake is right, fiberglass antennas aren't any better than whips, just a bit more resilient IMHO. I had a 4' whip on my F-150 and it looked like a slinky after driving through my woods. That was also mounted to my roof. Its more looks than anything.

Yeah, 3' will just barely crest roof if you use plum's mount. and 3' should be enough to talk both in convoy and up and down hwy a few miles, depending on LOS.
