this is morn likely a stupid question but just want peoples opinions/what you are using.

When I first changed my oil I switched to Rotella T6 which I love but its 5W-40. Manufacturer recommended is 10-30. Thinner weight at start up and heavier at operating temp isnt hurting anything is it? I have 25-30 psi at idle at op temp and 40-42 psi at speed.

I wasn't putting down your XJ at all. Just saying the Manche is consistently impressing me offroad, even with the longbed.

As much crap as I have given you about the bob I love to see people doing things outside the box. I mean I did buy a pickup that is over 16ft long. Manche has done great with everything I have seen it go through.

Enjoy your government approved weekend! Can't wait for you to bring the maro back. I need someone to cruise around with.

only hurting your gas mileage and engine component life

I'm a big opponent to increasing the engine oil weight from manufacturer spec. My reasoning is they spent countless hours and dollars in engine development, so i'm confident the weight the specified is the best for the engine internals. By increasing the weight all you're doing is increasing it's resistance to flow, making the engine work harder and decreasing the lubrication of the internals.

I use 5w-30 part-syn year round, and have even considered going 0W-30 if I switched to full synthetic (never gonna happen...). I see no benefit from using anything else.

18mpg on 33" MTs and 261,000 miles speaks for itself I think...my truck runs really well.
