I'm a big opponent to increasing the engine oil weight from manufacturer spec. My reasoning is they spent countless hours and dollars in engine development, so i'm confident the weight the specified is the best for the engine internals. By increasing the weight all you're doing is increasing it's resistance to flow, making the engine work harder and decreasing the lubrication of the internals.

I use 5w-30 part-syn year round, and have even considered going 0W-30 if I switched to full synthetic (never gonna happen...). I see no benefit from using anything else.

18mpg on 33" MTs and 261,000 miles speaks for itself I think...my truck runs really well.
I am getting 17.8 *last fill up* on 31s and 60K with an auto and 3.55 gear

Think I might go conventional 10-30 and see if there is a difference. I went a tad thicker due to RPMs when wheeling higher RPM you do want a little thicker oil so it doesnt just sling everywhere without lubricating anything.

You are going to s*** when you read this but in the pickup I run straight conventional Valvoline 60W lol

Yeah the T3 conventional, thats what I normally run, I threw the T6 syn in the XJ just to try it, I am going to run the T3 and compare the two now.

Just alittle but not much

With the 3 speed auto and the 3.90 gear it spins pretty high while cruising and the race weight oils are actually detergent free, also keeps the roller cam quiet instead of sounding like a squealing gerbil
