I asked the same question in June and got some great suggestions, but when I spoke with my Brother he said not to rush and we would go to the range together.

I chose a mossberg 500. It's not comfortable, it will get the Job done though.

I own Glock 22, 23 and 27 (all .40S&W, Full, Compact and SubCompact). Before I shot the Glock, I used to talk ****. Any Glock .40 will be a great choice. Also, try out the Sig 226 and 229. I would recommend .40 regardless. You have the capacity of a 9 but increased "power." Don't get sucked into the 9/40/45 debate. 90% of the cops in the US carry .40. I have had .45s too and loved them. Bottom line: go to gun store, hold as many handguns as you can and try to get to range. You are more than welcome to come up to farm and shoot when I get home.
