Anyone a computer genius? I'm having technical problems. I've got 2 laptops. One has a bad hard drive but it's in physically great shape. The other has a broken screen and it's having trouble with it's wireless card. Both are HP Pavillion DV2500 series laptops that I bought in 2008. I need to make 1 complete laptop. Can I remove the good hard drive and just put it in the one that had the blue screen of death and will it work or will I have to download the OS again?
Exact model #'s are:
DV2715nr - Bad hard drive. Used a 3.5 external HD in it for a little but it doesn't fit right.
DV2988nr - Daughter dropped it. Works but screen is broken and network card is ??
I thought about just swapping screens but it looks pretty difficult.

it may work - drivers are likely a bit different but the mobo should be close enough to boot it. Try it out - only takes 30 seconds to swap drives. Worst case you swap screens. I can do that for you if it comes to that.

So now I have the DV2715nr up and running. I looked at the system properties and it shows it's a 64 bit system with 2.0GB of RAM with a AMD TL-58 1.9GHz processor. Since the other computer now has no hard drive and a broken screen can I take any of the RAM out and add it to the one that is working?

OK, I just swapped drives and everything appears to be working. This is good for me since now I don't have to buy my 15 yr old a new computer!

It's likely that they will match, but i can't guarantee it.

Thanks for all the help. In the past hour I was able to swap hard drives so I didn't lose all the info on the computer and upgrade it from 2GB to 4GB of RAM. Now it's time to drink a beer!
