I know it's horrible for you but I'm using a hood and top of the line 3M respirator when I do it. I actually prefer just using my air sander mostly. It's faster in most cases. And I have all the filters and everything I need on my compressor lines

36 grit on an air sander makes quick work of any rust/paint/powder coat
