Only Forrest Gump rain
"One day it started raining, and it didn't quit for four months. We been through every kind of rain there is. Little bitty stingin' rain... and big ol' fat rain. Rain that flew in sideways. And sometimes rain even seemed to come straight up from underneath. Shoot, it even rained at night..."

It stabilizes (dampens) your steering in the way that when you hit something at speed it doesn't jerk the wheel out of your hands. Slows the reaction down some so to speak. Think of it as a shock for your steering. Definitely won't effect anything else by replacing it.
