I haven't done any outdoor climbing here. (I did when I lived in Texas) I climb at Earth Treks Climbing Gym in Rockville. I love it!

Jake my sources say that Renix AW4s (84-90) had a 21 spline output, and HO AW4s (91+) had a 23 spline output. The input for the TC would have the same spline count.
Therefore...a np242 from 1987 4.0/AW4 XJ SHOULD have a 21 spline input.
Where it gets more complicated is the input shaft LENGTH - short (1.2"), medium (1.7"), and long (2.1") - yours SHOULD be a short shaft, but you'll need to verify.
So..options...
Theoretically, any np242/np231 from a Renix era automatic transmission XJ SHOULD bolt right in. A np231/np242 from a H.O auto XJ would work also, but you'd need to swap the input shaft

I went there once. Way too much tape on the walls compared to what I was used to, and it costs 3x as much as the place we went in Germany.
