I'm in good spirits; I just don't have the money to replace it until at least Friday. This is my travel month, so I get some extra cash, but I was hoping to start collecting lift parts.

2.6GHz is a decent amount for an i7 processor. Remember it's multi-core
and you will never use 12gb of ram unless you're rendering video - hard drive speed is going to be the limiting factor with that system

I was thinking of my 3.3ghz i5. My bad. And I want enough future proofing that I can still play my current games on high res in a couple years when I have 500gb used on my HDD. I haven't kept up with the market, so I'm open to suggestions.

any reason why you are stuck with laptops? desktops are cheaper typically and much easier upgraded as thing become broken/obsolete/outdated
