Hey guys,

I need some help with CV Axle/Joint replacements on a 1998 ZJ.

So I found a torn CV Boot while getting this ZJ prepped for inspection. I also notice a 'high frequency' type of vibration really noticeable at high speed ( 70 MPH ) Was going to just replace the boot, but now think the CV joint may be bad.

It looks like I can get both driver and passenger side CV joint/axle from AUTOZONE for around $150.
Autozone Part Numbers ..... Duralast Reman CV Axle 9107 and Duralast Reman CV Axle 9108

I'd like to attempt the installation myself, I feel competent enough to do so.

I cannot find any detailed write-ups on how to do the job so I would like to know if there are any special tools I will need. ( read somewhere about needing a 12 point 1/2" socket ) Is there anything else?

Also any feedback on the Duralast parts???

THANKS!

question - do you offroad it at all? If so I suggest switching to ujoint axles like XJs use

As far as changing it, you need a basic socket set (needs to include a 12pt 13mm), and a 36mm hub nut socket. Remove the brake caliper, break the hub nut loose, remove the bolts holding the hub to the knuckle, and pull the hub off. Shaft slides right out.

As far as parts, I avoid autozone like the plague. Get them from Advance Auto - you can order the part online and use a coupon code to get a bunch of money off, then go pick it up at the store.

X2 on Autozone. They're the Harbor Freight of auto parts.

I usually always have the tab open whether I am sitting at my computer or not.

Good morning all! I am getting super excited for Saturday! My lift is finally going be installed after sitting in my living room for over 2 months.

I just hope we finish on Saturday. My plan is to wrap up by 5pm and then go home and get a shower and then head to Looney's Maple Lawn for a band called JunkFood. Otherwise I'll be hungover when we start on Sunday.

Lol! I completely understand. So if we start on Friday, do we have any others that are going to come as well?
