Basically, the Jeep would start out sluggishly in 1st, then go to 4k rpm, and then lose all power. Smoke was coming out of the dipstick tube.
Well, i had to have it towed back to my house. It's been sitting while i've been dealing with death wobble in my '95. I got around to it today.
I dropped the pan and changed the filter. The fluid was a solid red color, with a lot of very fine metal shavings in the pan (almost like mud). It also had about a teaspoon of larger metal shavings on the filter. The fluid didn't really smell burnt at all, just like ATF. I put a new filter and gasket on and filled it up with Bar's Transmission Repair and Dex/Merc to the perfect amount by getting it hot and letting it run in neutral.
Took it around the block...RUNS GREAT! Actually, it runs better than when i got it. It shifts smooth and downshifts correctly when i stop. Not sure why it suddenly resurrected itself on a fluid and filter change....but i'm not complaining.
This is a huge weight off of my shoulders because i was looking at $500-1,200 in repairs, depending on if it needed a new tranny, rebuild, torque converter, etc. If it had cost that much, i would have probably parted it out. I'm just glad it's back to it's old self and i get to keep it.

Seat cover on drivers seat, that hides a bear trap...
Know someone who put a a small coyote trap, tethered to a chain, inside his toolbox that went across the bed of his truck. At 5am, there was a Mexican caught in it. His tools were no longer stolen

Yes but where does it say that the bellhousing will work? That the aw4 has the same bolt pattern as that torqueflight, regardless of bellhousings? Or the transmount? Is it a 21 spline output?
Basically, what research have you done or found that says this is a viable transmission to be put in?
