did you do a compression test before you tore off the head? probably be easier to tear out the motor and put it on a stand if you are doing all of that... one thing though, you get it running right, it will run for another 400k... just saying... jeeps are beasts... and what ever you learn off this one, pretty much applies to all xj's

Ya a buddy of mine did the test n told he it was like
1 was 90
2 was 87
3 was 100
4 was 112

That was the reason with also burning thru a half tank of oil on a 45 min trip on flat ground.

Leefer should just toss a sb350 in it and get it over with

If he has a 4cyl, doesn't that mean there's a good chance he's got the 4.10 axles under that thing?

Ya it's a 4 cylinder. As for the axels no clue. How much would a new engine cost and as for installation I have no heated place to work on it.

A "new" engine would be expensive. I see used 4.0L I6s on jeepforum.com and on craigslist fairly often for $400-1000.

College park is an hour plus from Frederick. Not sure I'd do that trip.

Anyone want to come help me wrap up this steering box job? I figure this is going to be the last nice day for a while.
