Anyone have knowledge of the " Automatic Climate Control System " in a 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited?

*Yesterday I had heat hot enough to run you out of the vehicle.
*Last night it would not start ..... turns out alternator went bad.
*Today had alternator replaced by local service center.
*Tonight NO HEAT !!!!!!!
*Since they are not directly related I am guessing the issue is unrelated .... or could they be?

Assume the service center disconnected the negative cable from the battery to replace the alternator.
If at some point they allowed a positive cable to contact ground they would have caused a 'hard reset' of the computers.
Could this cause a problem with the heat? One service center employee alluded to some 'relearning process'.
Call Jeep Dealer and they said something about reprogramming?

It's not like there is absolutely NO HEAT because ....
1) When I first turn the heat on, you can feel a short burst of heat then with the air flow it cools down.
2) When I adjust the temperature control from LOW to HI I can feel the air coming out of the system being warmer on the HI side than on the LO side.

Hoses going to the heater core .... hotter on one than the other as I would expect.

Anything I can check or do before I schlep it to the dealer to be diagnosed????

THANKS !!!!!!

that almost sounds like the problem I'm having now with my Blue XJ. heat not working barely at all. and both hoses to the heater core are warm. the air is still warm, but gets cooled down like you said. we have no idea what it is.
