Yeah, guess I will just have to wait it out a bit longer. I'm specifically looking for a 1992, so my pickings are slim.

Why dead set on '92?

Several reasons:

I've discovered the 1992's are the cheapest to insure (at least for me)

I don't want an airbag

I don't want ABS

What happened to the '99 Classic you were picking up?

I don't think that's a necessary comment, but thanks for your opinion.

I don't want an airbag because I plan on using this Jeep for offroad and trail use.

I don't want ABS because I would prefer a 8.25 rear and not the DANA 35.

I've found the 94 and earlier are easiest to find without these options and the 92 are the cheapest to insure.

To answer your question, the owner decided to keep the 99.

You are welcome.

Maybe you need to elaborate. '92 isn't the only year not to have airbags or ABS. I have an '89, a '92, and a '96, insurance is the same for all.

I edited my previous post for for clarifcation.

Perhaps I need to switch insurance companies then, because when comparing a 1990, 1992, 1996 and a 1999 the premiums varied by several hundred dollars with the 1992 being the cheapest.

I am aware that I am able to swap these componets from other XJs but I'm trying to make my life a little easier by starting with the right platform.

Airbag has nothing to do with offroad capability of an XJ.

non ABS is available from 1984-2001

non ABS is available in both 8.25 and D35

My opinion, and just that, is if I were looking for year specific, I would go for a '96

Yes, this is correct, but I'd rather not have one deploy on me while out on a trail. Am I wreckless? No, but things happen and I would rather not have to go through the hassle of replacing it simply to pass safety inspection if it went off.

Why specifically the '96? The only benefit I can see would be OBDII and that the body was strengthened.

Out of the three XJs I have, the '96 is my favorite. From handling, to power, to interior, to what you mentioned. The airbag shouldn't be a concern. Can understand if you don't want one, but don't see you setting it off. If anything, disable it.

I love my 96, except that its a mixed year. Early 96s are goo. I have a late year 96. I have a lot of stuff from a 97. Like my headlight harness.

And i have non ABS with an 8.25.

I would love to find a late model, two door, '96 to swap everything over to from my '89

Thinking of that, did any '97+ two doors come with manual windows, door locks, etc?

Airbag has nothing to do with offroad capability of an XJ. X2 haven't seen one deploy off roading yet. And I have beat and trashed some vehicles.

non ABS is available from 1984-2001. X2

non ABS is available in both 8.25 and D35. X2

worse case on ABS take it out/disable it. If the platform was worth the purchase price.

My 97 came stock with ABS and a D35 it was swapped for a 8.25 with out ABS.

Opinions, are just that, I have had a 92, 93, 97 XJ's. I currently have a different 97 and a 2000 XJ. My Opinion anything after 99 is SHYTE. Hindsight being a biotch I would find a 2 door, 5 speed as for the Year I like the newer grills but it's all in what ya want.

just my thoughts.
