Is there a reference that states the pressures a certain barrel or mechanicals can take? My 1911 will be the first semi I have owned and reloaded for.
Since it's baaad juju to post anything above published max loads, I would point you to the following link for further edification. The 1911 forum is a great resource (not as great as CF-Maryland though). I will also state that with .308 you are talking about completely different animals. If you want a flat trajectory on a handgun bullet consider a FN 5.7 platform. 2,000 fps and up! The 1911's forte is that it throws the "flying ashtray" (230g JHP) designed for taking down human targets within 25 yards. High velocity and flat trajectories aren't part of the portfolio.

The FN five seven is a great platform. I was trying to get my hands on one for awhile but the price of the pistol has been inflated for the last couple years but now is off the charts as is the ammo.

I have an FNP 45 Tactical. If you want to test drive it at OnTarget just let me know. It has a threaded barrel, Trijicon RMR sight on the slide and is a dream to shoot.

completely realize the difference just giving you some background on what I tend to do when bored at the bench..... Read a book on Elmer Keith and have been pushing load limits since. 5.7 is def a handloaders caliber, you seen ammo prices pre 2nd amendment crisis? redic! lol

Thanks for the info though, I still need to run a few hundred "factory" loads through the '11 once I get it to break it in anyway.

Also, do you or Brian have a local-ish gunsmith you would recommend?
