You asked...
Like many manufacturers, Chrysler cheaped out and ran the headlight current through the switch in the cabin. They also ran 16 AWG wiring as the primary conductors in the harness. If you put H4 bulbs in the stock harness, the wiring will melt over time.
Using an aftermarket harness with relays solves this problem and takes the switch and all of that skinny wiring out of the current delivery circuit. By tapping the hi beam and low beam plug sockets in the stock passenger side headlight connector, your stock switch is the trigger for the relays. The relays can handle up to 40A but I fuse each circuit with 30A ATM fuses. Your headlight now get all the juice they need.
This harness can deliver much better lighting to your stock sealed beams or can support the biggest wattage H4 bulbs if you want to go that route.

surprisingly the relays in that harness have held up without issue for 2 years so far - used every day and splashed with mud/water offroad on the reg.

My putco harness has been flawless, the low beam relay gave out but only because I apparently dripped transfluid or some other such thing on it and it melted the plastic casing letting crap in. I've got bosch relay packs I'm going to modify the harness with once I get the time.
