My biggest critique is this:

One of the hallmarks of Jeep isn't just their capability offroad, but the aftermarket available to the enthusiast.

I think, that when you make a car like this, you take a lot of the backyard mechanic enthusiasts out of the game.

Will there be an aftermarket for it? Will there be modifications that can be done in a weekend?

My heart to the first guy that does a solid axle swap on one of these...lol...I wanna see one cut up with 35's.


I also want to know why Jeep recycled the Cherokee name? Why not name it something new? I think when you re-use a name, the new incarnation should have some visible link to the past. This does not.

I was going to complain about lack of aftermarket support, but everyone said what about the WJ. Those are being cut up and wheeled now.

I think its their attempt to a "throwback" just like the charger/camaro/ mustang... its a sad attempt of a tribute to a vehicle line that is only been dead for 12 years lol totally agree on the name.... that thing for lack of a better term is definitely a cherokar

Its going to be the same thing. We will have members on here with the new one "i have a cherokee just like you guys" "negetive cherokrossover" its the same as all the mopar products with these new FI hemispherical headed engines, with the audacity to play off the original Hemi name. Even though they share nothing more than the basic head design. None of the in your face power/performance.

Ill be putting the jeep up for sale in the next couple weeks. just have to paint the hood and detail it inside and out.....kinda sad to see it go, for what i paid for it its been amazing! so whatever i sell it for is what ill have to buy a new one when i get to alaska....id really like to replace the tierod before i sell it cause i think i could get more for it but i don't have the cash to. i have replaced the starter, alternator, battery, muffler, tailpipe, cd player and it runs great.... so hopefully ill be able to get something decent out of it

fwiw, i'm rolling on the firestone at's and, yeah they don't look much more aggressive than a regular lt/passenger tire. but i'm over it now and they've been good so far. however, if i were to get tires again i'd probably just go cheap and get goodyear wrangler radials....would be surprised if i'm still driving this xj before the tires wear out.

i've been down some fairly muddy roads over in wv w/out having to put it in 4wd. nothing like what i've seen pics of at bs tho. they are absolute magnets for rocks if you ever end up on gravel but then again, most non mts probably are.

i like how the heading asks "would you offroad it?" uhhh...does it have 4 wheels and an engine? i'd take my 91 buick on an offroad joyride if it didn't get me to work in luxurious style everyday.

It's its a tragic story really. The top and bottom headlights have been married for decades. But things can get stale in a marriage. Then bottom lights met a new grill with a plastic surgery fetish at a bar one day. It started innocent enough, talking about car washes and bug splatter. They bonded over a hatred of HID headlights and not being washed enough. then then one night, charged up with a few too many shots of E85 They went home together. Only to have his wife, the upper headlights walk in on them. Startled like a dear in the headlights, He yelled, "well you don't want to try anything different any more. It's the same old **** with you!" Furious, the upper lights gave the grille a withering look making its plastic face melt. terrified by her melting face the grille gathered whatever she could and left. The bottom and top lights are separated now made more awkward by the fact hat they all work together. Reports are that they may get back together. We all hope they do. It hurts us all to see them apart like that because of one mistake.

as far as newer jeeps go...i was surprised at how much i liked the looks of this patriot on rocky road's website.

The Hate stems from the fact that they took a car/namesake that practically dominates a market full of enthusiasts. Thousands of people that hear the name Cherokee and have a set definition and Idea for that name. They took the name and cut off its ***** and gave the weak, limp wristed leftovers to the spoiled child consumer, inherently telling a whole group of people to **** off. At least in other parts of the world the Cherokee name was gradually neutered But here the Cherokee name basically went from capable and indestructible tool to soft pathetic toy for the lazy mass market consumer with no adjustment period.

The Patriot was more Cherokee-like than any of the other offerings, except they neutered it. If they had made it more capable, and added mopar aftermarket, they could have gotten the XJ lovers onboard.
