Congrats Aaron, Thats another eagle to the people I know... Its a long road but def worth it in the long run
I made it through to Life by the age of 16 and a half. Took my time to do a memorial garden at my church that had been overgrown for years. Got everything gutted and ready for new plants and benches and plaques...church council decided that they wanted to do it without us and told us we had to stop. Took 4 months to get it gutted. Never got back to it. Troop collapsed, never got involved again.

My grandfather started a troop in our area in the 50s and was the scoutmaster for my Uncle who made it to Life and my father who made it to First Class*couldnt swim and still can't, back then it was a requirement to advance* Troop closed up in the late 70s with my grandfather still the Scoutmaster. A year before I would bridge into Boyscouts my dad started the same Troop back up and was the SM, he stepped down after I aged out. He and I were invited to one of the youngest scouts *when we were still active* Eagle Ceremony. It was the first time we had seen the Troop in a few years and boy was it a huge disappointment. Kids in sneaks and jean shorts that were in the Ceremony. Enrollment is way down as is participation. Glad it was great when I was active. Its a shame that its falling apart the way it is.

I made Life at 16 and slacked and got my Eagle paperwork through 15 days prior to my 18th birthday. Just squeaked by with Eagle and a palm by my birthday. Was in a venture crew for a bit just to keep my Order of the Arrow membership current and made it through Vigil. Life turned toward a different course at 20 and havent been back since. Our whole District is in shambles, turned way political and began to shun good adult leadership that had been active way after their boys had aged out. Its a sad thing now but looking back, I miss those days

I'm in the oa as well. Out of 10 kids me and my friend are the only two left in our age group in the troop. Our troop has been reduced to nothing.

Always happens. I was in a troop with my brother and no one else was as old as us.

My troop went from 80 when I first started to 6 when I left, it's pretty sad. Any of you guys ever make it out to Philmont?

I'm super jealous, our troop isnt very adventurous. Like they think I'm crazy for rolling up in a tarp and sleeping bag instead of a tent.
