They can, Aaron. What I saw was a low explosive blast, designed without shrapnel, timed to coincide with a large crossing of Marathon runners. It was likely politically or religiously motivated, and it's gonna end with us losing more of our rights so people can feel safe. 2 dead, a couple dozen injured, and some severed limbs.

Agreed with the low explosive force, can't confirm on shrapnel. But if limbs were lost, there was shrapnel involved (either with the explosive device, or secondary shrapnel (anything around the explosion that was carried by the blast.))

Bring out the conspiracy theories... My bet is on a separatist cell in Boston.

Secondary shrapnel is obvious considering the location. Cell phones, watches, building fragments, and broken glass at a minimum. You don't need shrapnel to sever a limb, though. The pressure wave of a .50BMG can dislocate your shoulder if it passes nearby. A bomb has much more force than that.

I already call bull****, but that's just me. I can't say the things I'd like to say because of my job.

Reminds me of the Times Square Bomber a few years back. He supposedly drove his van full of explosives to Times Square, ready to blow everyone up, but our agencies took him down at the last second even though his record was clean and there was no reason to suspect anything out of the ordinary. He was swiftly processed and never heard from.

Actually, in that case, the car was reported to a cop as "smoking"....he set the bomb off, but it was a dud.
