Well any turn key pro-touring car is going to set you back 150-200k easily. At that point it's no longer anything like the original car so it doesn't count. And it doesn't come with a warranty or any sort of reliability or crash rating whatsoever.

I've seen vehicles with updated chassis and drive train built for less. So yeah I think it could be done.
I can agree with that. If I had that kind of money I probably wouldn't be worried about the cost of the car vs building one. I'd have a Torino and the Equus.
