I'll tell you what - it's a ROYAL PITA. I did mine originally with a wobbly extension and a prayer

Best way - take off the bumper end caps.

My caps are off (as you may have noticed), and there's a lot of room. Wasn't hard to get them off, either. I forget what size, but make sure to hold the nut on the inside, or you'll be there all day lol

I'm guessing he wants to put his back on. I tore up my pass. side cap cause it was already broken, but I took off my driver's side the right way. Air dam got cut with a Benchmade, though.

Speaking of winches.. anything wrong with Harbor Freight in that department? I'm hoping to order my winch bumper end of October, and I don't want a naked plate for too long while funds accumulate.

No nothing really wrong with them

Obviously a $1,300 Warn winch is at least $750 for the name. I just wasn't sure how cheap I can go and still get value. I'll read up more and do comparisons/reviews when I'm closer to a purchase.

I found the easiest way was just to unbolt the whole bumper. But I was putting tow hooks on.

Apparently the new Harbor Fright "badland" series winches are a pretty good winch for the money. You might also look at the Smittybuilt XRC8 Winch, I know when it first came out people loved it.

For the money, I think the Smittybuilt xrs8 is a pretty decent winch. There was an article a while back that compared a bunch of low buck winches, I'll have to see if I can dig it up.
If you can, I'd appreciate it. Don't try too hard though, cause it'll be at least two months before I can install the bumper lol

As I was looking around, I found out that the article was to old, Harbor freight has come out with a new line of winches that are much better then their old ones. So it would be pointless to use the review to make a choice with.

The more I find out, the better that 12k Harbor Freight winch looks. I mean $399, series wound motor. Sure I'm sure its not a speed deamon, but hell better then hand winching.

Thanks for looking. Like I said, I'll look into it more when I'm closer to purchasing. I was just curious for some opinions.

Question for you CB guys: When I get a CB, I'm looking at mounting my antenna in the stock antenna location since I don't listen to the radio. If I get a whip, can I tie it back to the roof rack? Will it damage it, or reduce the effectiveness? I'd prefer to keep it at a reasonable height so I don't hit stuff. I'm sure Doc knows all about that

Most likely your terminals have a poor connection. Shine those puppies up with sandpaper and re-install them. Also check your grounds are still intact.
