I put the XJ up in the for sale section this morning. After thinking about it long and hard I'm going to sell it and pick up a low mileage stock XJ that belongs to a buddy's parents and build it with the knowledge that I've gained on the forum over the past few years. I know what I want and need in a rig and I like the XJ platform even though it would be cheaper for me to get a Wrangler.

The Jeep I'm looking at is a low mileage (48,000) 1 ownerXJ from Texas that is garage kept. 1999 with overhead console, cruise control, 231, HP Dana 30 and 8.25 rear end. No accidents and perfect paint.

Sounds like a '99 Limited. Might have heated mirrors, and I've heard rumors of heated seats.

I'm confused as to what package it is because it has some options that I don't think came together and it's possible his father is wrong on.

It is the classic body and has color-keyed bumpers and alloy wheels. He siad he ordered it from a Jeep dealer in Wichita Falls, TX for his wife and she didn't want the leather seats because of the heat in TX, but did want the overhead console and upgraded sound system. I always thought the leather seats weren't an option if you had the Infinity Sound package. He also says it has the towing package with "upgraded" rear end. The picture he sent me shows a normal 8.25. I'm not sure if he is talking about gear ratio and I asked and he just said it was upgraded. He said he could fax me the build sheets and all of his paperwork from the library tomorrow.

Crazy part is that it's only been driven 4000 miles in the past 3 years since his wife passed. I'm pretty sure 2000 of those were from my buddy who uses it when he is on leave from the Army. He has a truck he uses daily and only drives the Jeep on weekends to keep it running. All of his services have been at the local Jeep dealer and Carfax confirms it. It looks like he takes it in for an oil change every 4 months like clock work.

Sounds outstanding. I'd take a look at that build sheet or at least get the VIN and email Chrysler Corp for a build. It's possible, though, that some of that could've been done at the dealership. A note on the heated mirrors: They're easy to identify as they have a defrost symbol on the glass. They may have only been offered '00/01, though. I'm not sure.

Since you are getting a winch just spend the money on a singer, mechman or mean green alternator? Then again our alternator's are regulated by the pcm and there are those 2 pesky 60amp fuses to deal with....

They've gone PLAID

The thing that amazes me is they hit almost 1.0G force during the run. That means insanely quick acceleration. Most sports cars struggle to achieve 1G even under braking or turning...

Bought it off my brother in law for $450. Couldn't pass it up. Came with 200 rounds of ammo too.

Open carry as well. Going to get my conceal carry soon. I can legally have a loaded gun on the jeep seat right now as long as it's visible.

Well, it's official. At least for the TJ. I haven't tagged the XJ yet. Still have a years worth of rim registration on there.
